Ubuntu

“ I am what I am because of who we are”

We are all bound together by things that are invisible to the eye, by our emotions, by our gratitude and by our compassion towards others. Ubuntu is a faceless philosophy that binds us together to create something more than just the individual. Ubuntu asks us to open our hearts and allow others to inspire our hearts to live for more than just ourselves; to encourage the creation of a more collective society and to consider the success of the group above that of the individual.

Suggesting that the only way for us to be human is to share our humanity with other people and to have it reflected back at us, understanding that our Ubuntu is what connects us with the world. The philosophy that doesn’t judge our success on money or materialism yet for our kindness towards and our willingness to help others. A perspective that believes the progression of the world lays in the collection of simple gestures of compassion towards others rather than grand activity.

The essence of being human is to give ourselves to the best interests of others and allow the synchronisation of our actions to develop. Understanding that we can’t exist in isolation and we cannot be human by ourselves is the first step to changing our world.

“ Humanity should be our race and love should be our religion”

Senses

Breathe, take a step back and open your eyes; open your ears, open your soul and most importantly open your heart. Open your heart to possibilities, to yourself and to others. Don’t rush just consider, consider what’s important to you; consider what makes you, you. Look, gain a 360 degree perspective of yourself, your soul, your being and let it guide your actions and most importantly let it guide your vision. When you look forward what do you see? Do you see progression or do you see yourself stationary? Listen to the sound of your heartbeat beating in your chest when you experience true happiness, the rush of what it means to be alive. Allow yourself to listen to your own thoughts, to your own feelings and take action. Learn to listen to prioritise what’s important to you and your being. Smell so you can remember, scent is the most powerful memory trigger. Remember what it is that allows you to wake up in the morning, brush your teeth and put your shoes on to walk outside ...

Growth

Even if you’re not ready, the world isn’t going to go in standstill and wait for you to catch up. It’s going to keep moving forward, you can’t pause time and hope that eventually you’ll be in the right place at the ‘right’ time. Say life’s a game, and you’re playing on beginner level when you have the ability to go above and beyond and tackle the expert level. Do you really have the motivation to continually succeed in your comfort zone but never improve?  Is that really winning? I know I’d rather play the game on expert level and fail numerous times before I succeed. I believe in myself and my dedication that I can achieve whatever is put in front of me. Why? Because that’s the kind of person I want to be. I want to be the kind of person who wants to learn, the kind of person to take any opportunity to develop themselves to make themselves the best possible version of them in that moment of time. Life is ongoing, it continuously moves forward. You need to be willing to take...

Faith

Faith is commonly referred to within the religious context, yet faith is defined as ‘complete trust or confidence in someone or something’. Coming from a generation that is experiencing the culture of ‘trust issues’ and increasing individualised insecurities due the increasing pressures of societal norms and standards it seems to be a common trend to lose faith. Similar to all my other posts, this isn’t subjected to the whole of society, yet building on my own experiences and others around me. Wanting to believe in something bigger than you, to me that’s what it’s about. Whether you immerse yourself into a culture, a lifestyle or a religion, understanding that the way you perceive the world isn’t necessarily defined by your past experience yet the mind set and perspective which you chose to view the present world. Think about faith like a pair of glasses, we don’t all need to wear them. Although for some of us our faith is required and practiced at all times and for some of us w...
